No action against political holy man

The Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (CCCS/EFKS) has confirmed it is not pursuing any disciplinary action against Reverend Kelekolio Sanele.
The clergy became the focus of public attention after openly expressing support for the Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party.
General Secretary Reverend Dr. Taipisia Leilua told the Samoa Observer in a recorded interview that there has been no formal complaint or correspondence submitted to the church’s disciplinary committee regarding Rev. Sanele’s political stance.
“As far as the church is concerned, nothing has come through the proper channels. At this point, we have not heard anything, and the matter is not before the disciplinary committee,” Rev. Dr. Leilua said.
He also clarified that the secretary of the disciplinary committee, Reverend Amuia Seuala, has not received any report or directive concerning Rev. Sanele.
“I can confirm that nothing has reached the disciplinary committee, and Rev. Seuala has not received any complaint regarding Rev. Sanele’s alleged support for the FAST party,” Rev. Dr. Leilua added.
Reiterating the church’s official stance, the General Secretary stressed that the CCCS maintains strict political neutrality and does not affiliate itself with any political party or candidate.
“As I have stated before, the position of the church is neutrality. Rev. Seuala has mentioned that a warning has been issued, but the CCCS as a church has no political affiliation,” he said.
Rev. Sanele became a subject of public discussion after openly acknowledging his support for FAST in public forums. His stance drew mixed reactions, with some questioning whether such a position was appropriate for a minister of a church that has historically maintained a non-partisan position.
