Between the Lines
CHRONIC
For a nation where 80 per cent of deaths are attributed to non-communicable diseases, it is sad that basic diabetes and high blood pressure medicines are not available at the hospital. This is what is called a chronic problem in the health system.
VEHICLES
Guess which minister and his top official are still driving around in cars that were flagged by the rightful authority and told to return. Turning a blind eye to abuse of office will lead to more due processes not being followed. The question remains about the whereabouts of the initial vehicle that was given to the minister.
SPORTS FEES
Looks like this will be the year when the district grants will actually not be used for their intended purpose. The district offices were told to give $6,000 to a sporting team, of which $2,000 goes to uniforms, $2,000 to registration and $2,000 for general expenses.
GRANTS
Another week will slide by and this will be another week; schools around the country will be without the school grants. This looks to be one of the longest audits of schools to happen yet. Another process remains, which is to give money to the district offices to be distributed.
CHICKEN TAILS
Some people are claiming that shops in rural Samoa are selling chicken ‘tails’ as meat supplies are running out. Can the health department run a check to see if these are healthy for consumption?
