Between the Lines

AIRPORT GRASS

The grass at the Fagalii Airport needs trimming. In some places, it is close to two feet tall. Surely, the airport authority has the money, and it would be good for the Fagalii community, especially with the concern over dengue.

INVESTMENT

Wrong investment calls are now coming back to haunt the authorities. The beach resort up for possible sale has been given a lot of money, and it has been in the millions. The resort was given a $26 million loan last year.

TRUCKS

Speeding trucks on the highway are a disaster waiting to happen. Understandably, the power company truck ‘could’ have been headed to an emergency. It is mind-boggling to see a sanitation truck trying to keep pace. Someone’s septic tank must have needed a serious bailout.

MEETING

The Pacific Economic Ministers Meeting was on, and after a long time, there was no attendance by Samoa’s cabinet ministers. Unlike the whirlwind tour, when only four ministers were on the island, none took up the trip, even though it was fully funded. Getting back into the seat is priority.

SWIFT

The elections office has been tough. It has taken election fraudsters to task and will impose fines on those not registered. Hopefully, a similar stand and swift action will be taken against those caught treating and bribing. Meanwhile, there is no word if any party will be held accountable for breaching the campaigning time frame.
