Let go

Think a minute…When 2 wolves fight over a place and territory, they end their fight in a very unusual way. The wolf that finally knows he can’t win, surrenders by rolling over on his back and sticking out his neck to the teeth of the other wolf.

Then by instinct, the wolf who wins does not kill the one that surrenders. So the loser actually wins his life back.

You and I have people and things that we would fight to keep and protect—maybe even give our lives for. We can’t imagine ever letting go of these people and things that mean so much to us.

It reminds me of an experiment that was done by putting peanuts inside a cage. The door of the cage was very small, so only a monkey’s open, empty hand could fit through. When the monkey saw the peanuts inside the cage, it would reach through the small door to grab them.

But then when it tried to pull its fist full of peanuts out the cage door, it couldn’t fit through.  The only way for the monkey to free himself from the trap was simply to let go of the peanuts. Yet, not one of the monkeys would let go of the peanuts they loved so much. So they all stayed trapped.

What is it you love most? For many of us it’s our family. Or, it might be your job and financial security, your house and possessions, or your health. Maybe it’s your friends and fun times you have with them. These are the things that are hardest for us to let go of. But God doesn’t want us to let go and completely leave these things.

He wants us to give them to Him, so He can take good care of them. Remember, God gave you these things in the first place, and He can take better care of them than you can.

It’s only when our hands are finally free of holding on to these things, that we can take hold of God’s hand. It’s only then you’ll realize and enjoy the happiness you missed before.

And the more you get to know your Maker and Father, the more you’ll love and trust Him. You’ll learn to trust Him no matter what happens. You’ll trust Him when things are going well. And when things don’t go well, you’ll know that God is in control and working it for your good and happiness that lasts. Then you’ll discover and know:  “when all you have is Jesus, He’s really all you need.” Just Think a Minute…
