One Life

Think a minute…He had no servants, yet they called Him Master. He had no formal education, yet they called Him Teacher. He had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him.

He committed no crime, yet they brutally executed Him. He was buried in a tomb, yet three days later came back to life and for nearly seven weeks was personally seen alive by more than 500 different people. And He is alive today.

No one knows for certain who wrote the following summary of this one-of-a-kind life, but it impacts me deeply each time I read it.

“He was born in a small, obscure village, the baby of a teenage girl, and grew up in a poor area. He worked in a carpenter shop until he was 30-years-old. He then was a traveling teacher for a little over three years.

He never wrote a book. He never held a political position of power and respect. He never owned a home. He never had his own family. He never went to university. He never traveled more than 200 miles from the place he was born. He never did any of the things we call successful.

While he was a young man, public opinion turned against him. His closest friends abandoned him. He was betrayed and given over to his enemies to be judged in an illegal, unjust mockery of a trial. He was then tortured and executed between two criminals. While he was dying his executioners gambled for his only possession: his coat. After he was dead, he was put in a borrowed grave.

Nearly 2,000 years have come and gone, yet today He is still the most influential person in history. All the armies that have ever marched, all the navies that have ever sailed, all the governments and kings that have ever ruled, all put together, have not changed as many lives as this One Life.” Just think a minute…
