Tumau Ta’amaletoa Vaito’elau, 33, Piu Falealili

"I applaud the new Government for discarding the daylight savings time policy. In my opinion Samoa is already used to the time before daylight savings was introduced. It’s true that daylight savings has its positives such as longer evenings to do chores, but it also damages our body clock because it takes time for the body to adjust so I agree with Cabinet’s decision to scrap the daylight savings policy."

 Piui Simi, 32, Fagali’i

"I don’t agree with the decision by the Government to abandon the daylight savings policy. I think the policy had many advantages that benefited Samoa and its people, one such benefit is that it gives us more evening hours with daylight since people are more likely to be awake and active in the evening (after work) than in the morning (before work)."

Isabella Scaroni, 42, Vaitele

"The daylight savings time policy is a waste of time, I believe the Government has made the right choice in abolishing the contentious policy. As a parent, I think the policy leaves our young teenage girls vulnerable, especially those in rural areas who catch the bus in the wee hours of the morning when it's still dark outside. This is the time most of them are susceptible to pedophiles and sexual assault."

Rasela Schwalger, 51, Tuana'i

"I know the Government has decided to get rid of daylight savings time because they know it's for the good of Samoa. I for one am not happy with daylight savings because it leads to a lack of sleep and it makes people go to work early while it's still dark. As a small business owner, one daylight savings time I remember and why I think it should be banned forever is businesses closing while it's still daylight and people still want to buy things."

Alae Li'o, 43, Si'umu

"The Government has made a big mistake in choosing to abandon daylight savings time, one advantage of the daylight savings policy is parents having enough time in the evening to spend with their children. Another benefit is that it also brings more natural daylight, you use less artificial light and that makes a real impact on the overall cost of energy consumption."

Tali Leauanae, 44, Tanugamanono

"The daylights savings time policy is nonsense because it has a lot more disadvantages than benefits. I don't support daylight savings because it has led to a lot of indecent acts against young girls in the early hours of the morning. There was an incident a while back where this happened, and this is why I think we should stick to the time we have now."
