"In my own opinion it is a good thing to increase the percentage being deducted from our pay because it is my own money being saved in the NPF but because of so many family obligations and the high cost of living, I don't think it’s the right time for the increase to happen. We need more money to support our family every day so I prefer for the rise to wait for the right time."

Faamanu Tautasi, 31, Samalaeulu

"I don’t support that deduction for now as we have to compare with what we get and what we can afford to support our families daily and weekly but not a small period of time. If the NPF increases the deductions from our pay then we have to look at the minimum rate if it is balance with deductions. The minimum rate to kick off should increase as well."

Mona Sale, 30, Utualii

"It is good on one side and it is not really good on the other side. What I mean is the minimum rate is very low and the cost of living is high so if the NPF deduct more then we receive less which is not cool. If the deductions increase so too should our job rate increase to balance the equation. But the good thing is that it is our own savings that we can loan and get it back in the future."

Susana Lino, 30, Salelavalu

"I think that if the deduction that is done by the NPF is increased so too should our pay also increase as well. There are other deductions apart from NPF like loans and others so we need to save but we also need to earn and hold cash to buy food every day so that’s what I think we should do."

Faapaia Niu, 24, Lefaga

"It is a good thing but also a bad thing. If the NPF increase their deduction so too should our pay increase as well. We need money and everywhere we go we need money. For us we spend a lot on transport every week, only when I stay in town do we spend less in a week so if the 10 per cent deduction goes ahead then the lowest rate of $3 an hour for our pay should increase as well."

Faava Shilva Kolemu, 19, Matautu-Lefaga

"What I think is that it is good for those people on a high salary but it is not good for those who are paid less so if the rate is low then the 10 percent is big for them but if your pay is more than enough then that 10 per cent suits you."
