Public express views on Pacific Games 2019 logo

With a few months left for Samoa to host the Pacific Games 2019, expectations are high. In the lead up to the region’s biggest sporting event, the Pacific Games logo was unveiled on Friday evening. Our reporter, Adel Fruean asked the views of the Samoan people on the new Pacific Games logo, which people responded to.

Ata Laban, 37, Alamagoto

I think that the logo looks good but just a little adjustment in terms of additional touches on it. I only want two Samoan designs to be added in it and they should be from the Samoan traditional tattoos. Another thing that is missing is the original look of the kava bowl, meaning they did not depict the entire design of the kava bowl.

In my own opinion, the new logo is very nice but there needs to be a small improvement. I think that if they added some Samoan designs to the kava bowl to make it more Samoan like, that would be complete in terms of our Samoan culture. We are not the only country that uses the kava bowl in the Pacific, there are Fiji and Tonga. But overall I like it.

Katalina Tuasivi, 62, Matautu-uta

I support our new logo but something caught my eye from its distinctive design. In my own viewpoint, I wanted them to specifically create the exact design and color of the kava bowl and maybe add a few other significant traditional items that are of great value to our culture in this logo. I only say that because it is evident that the kava bowl is also significant to other Pacific Island cultures. But then I do like our logo and applaud their creative skills for that particular design.

Tasiaeafe Tomasi, 19, Mulifanua

I truly approve the Pacific Games logo, which will be used as great symbol as we host all these countries coming over next year. As I look at the new logo it had the name of our country Samoa on it and to me that says it to other countries that we welcome them all to our beautiful country. It is very colorful and not only that it has great meaning behind it in terms of all these colors used. I really appreciate the work put in for this new logo, its different and original in terms of creativity.

Unapo Tuimauga, 72, Faleasiu

In my own perspective, I commend these artists for their hard work. I am really proud of our new logo that will be used for the Pacific Games next year. I admire the creative design of this logo. It is unique and has great symbol and meaning behind it as stated in the article from Sunday Samoan.
