Manu Samoa went down to Japan 38-19 last Saturday evening in their third Pool A game in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. Our trainee-reporter Jotham Ulutoa and photographer Vaitogi Asuisui Matafeo went to meet members of the public to get their views on the national team’s performance thus far.

The game was great to watch, though they lost to Japan, but to me it was a good game. The team had a lack of combination of players, like our team first five who struggled, he made some wrong decisions during the game. Nonetheless, I am happy with Manu Samoa because they did their best to play in the World Cup. They made a few mistakes but it was great to watch them.

I was confident that our team will win the game against Japan, but the results didn't come out as I had expected. I saw a lot of mistakes when I was watching the game. Most of their mistakes were loose balls, there was no cohesion between our forwards and backline. But overall I am still happy with the team effort and how they did in the game. All I have to say now is the need for them to rebuild and better luck.

Lafaele Olo, 44,  Fagalii

The Manu Samoa game against Japan was a disappointment for me. Some people blamed the referees but those referees have been trained. To me there were mistakes made by our Manu Samoa players, such as the number of loose balls and passing. However, the performance by the boys was good for me despite the loss to Japan.

Faafuata Sanele, 20, Moamoa Fou

The game was good  to watch. But I know that there are some people who were disappointed with the result. I watched the game and it was like there were some players who wanted to be a one-man show, while the others wanted to play as a team. The game had a few errors but it was great to watch as the boys did their best.

Johna Sasagi, 28, Vailele

The boys did their best and while the result was disappointing, it was not an easy game. I am happy for the boys, even though they lost the game. I hope we win the next game and our boys improve and do not repeat the mistakes they made against Japan.

Faafouina Falanaipupu, 44, Lepa (Lotofaga)

The game was disappointing for me because they lost. I noticed that the boys made crucial errors due to their below par tackling skills and passing game – which ultimately cost them the game. Despite the loss, I am happy for the effort that our Manu Samoa team put into the game against Japan. They should work on improving their game.
