The Tepatasi was runner-up in the first round of the Vodafone Sevens Series last week with rival OTT Constructor Tama Uli coming out on top in the cup finale.

But this was not the case on Saturday with Tepatasi able to down a formidable outfit in B.B.E Vaiala.

Tepatasi have now booked their place in the cup final for the second round of the series after they beat Lulu Mai Vini from the village of Ulutogia in their semi-final matchup.

B.B.E Vaiala defeated hot favourites of the series OTT Constructor Tama Uli in their semi-final clash to secure a spot in the final for the cup.

In the first half of the cup final between Tepatasi and Vaiala, Tepatasi scored two tries courtesy of Manu Samoa Sevens player Vaa Apelu Maliko in the first three minutes of the game, which were both converted by captain Iafeta Purcell to lead the match 14-0.

However, B.B.E Vaiala replied with a try from their jersey number #10 who was able to break the defence and score next to the goalpost. A successful conversion by Vaiala added 2 points and cut Tepatasi's lead with the score at 14-7 at the halftime hooter.

At the start of the second half, Tepatasi's jersey number #5 received an offload from Vaa Apelu Maliko and then dashed for Vaiala's try line to put his team up by 14 points, conversion was again successful from Iafeta Purcell to lead Vaiala 21 - 7.

But this did not deter Vaiala's fighting spirit as their jersey number #10 was again able to break through the tackles of three Tepatasi defenders and score right under the post, which was then converted by their fly-half to leave the score at 21-14.

A minute later Vaa Apelu Maliko scored his third try to record a hat-trick which was again converted by Iafeta Purcell to widen the score at 28-14.

When the full-time siren sounded, the game was already in the bag for Tepatasi, but Vaiala didn't throw in the towel as yet as they were able to cross over for a try from their jersey number #9 for the final score of 28-21 in favour of Tepatasi.

B.B.E VAiala's Head Coach Alatasi Tupou said after the match that he is immensely proud of the effort his team showed during the two days of the second round of the series.

"I did not expect our team to make it to the finals because the teams we faced were very strong teams, such as the OTT Constructor Tama Uli team," he said.

"Nevertheless, we were able to defeat them which is an achievement I'm very proud of and a positive we've taken out of this second round of the Vodafone National Sevens Series."

The B.B.E Vaiala Head Coach added that they made a lot of mistakes which they hope to fix before the next round of the series next month.

The captain of Tepatasi Iafeta Purcell, was also awarded the Most Valuable Player (M.V.P) award for his performance, told the Samoa Observer he is overwhelmed with his team's performance.

"I'm super proud of the boys, we were feeling down a bit after last week's loss to Tama Uli in the Cup Final of the first round, but we're glad we were able to win this second round," he said.
