Itu o Tane College's U18 girls rugby team's success at the BSP National Schools Sevens Championship Schools has made the principal very proud.

The team's success marks their first win in four years, and according to their school principal, Allie Faletolu, this is the result hard work and dedication.

"At least they came on top after all these years of trying," said Faletolu.

Under the skilled coaching of Leileiga Tanoa, who the principal acknowledged as the head coach for the girls U18, the team demonstrated remarkable progress and dedication, ultimately claiming the championship title.

"After all these years, he did the same thing - and they finally won," said Faletolu.

The team's exceptional performance was further highlighted by the selection of Upu Talavini as the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Talavini, an outstanding athlete and team captain, showcased her rugby talent as a powerful ball carrier and defender.

"She's been in the team since she was Year 9, she's now in Year 11. She scored so many tries, probably two a game," said Faletolu.

According to the principal, the tournament was well-attended and organised.

Itu o Tane College overcame strong opponents such as Aleipata College to secure their well-deserved victory. Not only were the U18s crowned champions, but this year also saw the U14s girl's team successfully defend their championship title.

The competition in Savai'i showcased an outstanding display of talent and determination from schools across the region.

The competition, which took place at multiple venues, including Tuasivi College Field, Prince Edward Park, and Don Bosco College Field, featured teams competing in various age categories.

There were four Zones, Zone A - Upolu East, Zone B - Upolu Central, Zone C - Savaii, Zone D - Upolu West. Of the four zones, Savaii (Zone C) dominated the BSP National Schools 7s Championship winning 5 division titles, with Upolu (Zone A, B & D) winning only 1 title.
