Fa’asalele’aga #2 has won the Business Systems Limited’s Under-14 rugby competition after a tough final against the boys from Itu o Asau #1.

Four teams from around the island of Savaii battled it out not only for the coveted trophy of the under-14 rugby tournament, but to find out which two teams will get the opportunity to represent Savaii in the Prime Minister’s Cup in one week’s time. There, the best two U-14 rugby teams from Savaii will face off with the best two teams from Upolu for the Prime Ministers Cup.

The two teams that are going to represent Savaii are Fa’asalele’aga #2 and Itu o Asau #1. The coach of the Fa’asaleleaga U-14 rugby team said that he is immensely proud of his team’s achievement.

“I am ecstatic at how they performed and worked hard in all of today’s matches against the other formidable teams. We are proud to get the chance to represent Savaii in the P.M’s Cup and we hope that we can achieve what we did here today as well at the P.M’s Cup.

This is the first year Business Systems Limited has sponsored the competition after the Savaii Under-14 Rugby Committee requested assistance and sponsorship from the company.

The joint initiative between the Savaii Under-14 Rugby Committee and BSL is to help the development of rugby within the primary school level of the island of Savaii.

The tournament’s main objective as stated by BSL’s Lalovi Peter Tau is not only to develop rugby within the island, but to encourage and promote physical exercise and healthy living for a sound-minded, healthy, and strong youth of Samoa in the future.

Lalovi also stated that another purpose of the event is to develop and discover new rugby talents as well as promoting rugby as a career path because not all students excel in class.

“Some students who aren’t interested in studying and reading, but may do good in sports, which is why BSL is happy to sponsor and support events like this one,” said Lalovi.
