Business house cricket competition starts

The Samoa International Cricket Association has kicked off its business house competition at the Tuanaimato Cricket grounds.

The Competition Manager, Perelini Mulitalo, said the competition started with 14 teams which got underway last Wednesday, 21 October and Friday, 23 October. 

The purpose of this competition is to introduce and develop cricket at all levels, and to have a healthy body for every individual.

"This tournament is specifically for Businesses (Government Departments, companies, small businesses, etc). Its main purpose is to introduce and develop the cricket sport in a way they can enjoy, have fun and exercise their bodies. It is a good way to relax from a busy day," she added.

The fourteen teams are Vodafone Samoa, Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, SSFA, TVF Electrical, M&M, USP Alafua, ANZ Bank, Samoa Commercial Bank, Alafua Raiders Taxi Stand, TJ Taxi Stand, SSAB, Samoa Shipping Corporation, and Lopa Industry.

The Alafua Raiders taxi stand is currently holding the shield.

The results for the first week of their competition are as follows:

Wednesday:

  • M&M won against Alafua Raiders taxi stand
  • Shipping won against SSAB
  • SCB won against Vodafone Samoa
  • Lopa Industry won over ANZ Bank

Friday:

  • TJ Taxi stand won against MPMC
  • SSFA wins by default
  • Shipping won against USP Alafua
  • M&M won against SSAB

This year is no different from their previous business tournament except for a slight changes to the sport.

"It's a bit different from the platform used in domestic competitions," she said.

It is not made known how long the competition will go on for.
