Tulimatala team from Faleula, went home with the grand prize of $2,000tala and a trophy sponsored by Rowlen’s Finance yesterday during a prize giving for Samoan Cricket (Kilikiti).
The tournament was conducted every Saturday’s for four weeks and five teams from different villages compete in this tournament.
The tournament was called “Rowlen Finance Tama o le I’a Kilikiti.”
According to the President of the Tournament Amituana’i Sa Hitilepi the whole purpose behind the tournament is to revive the sport that has been left behind for so many years.
“Even though our government has left behind the sport but we want to make sure that our children knows and understand about the sport,” said Amituana’i.
“This is one of our measina and we thought we should have never left it behind.”
“The sport has been long gone for more than 20 years now and so we have decided that it is time to revive it again for the sake of our children as you know Sale’imoa has many sub villages and we want to make sure that everyone participates in this tournament.”
Speaking about the tournament Amituana’i said when they advertised it was a Super 8 tournament but by the end of the registration date there were teams from Savaii.
“We didn’t accept teams from Savaii because we saw that money wise it doesn’t make up from where they are coming from,” said the President.
“So therefore, we went with just five teams and those were the teams that competed rom day one up until now.”
“So the teams were: Mafoa from Vailele, Tulimatala from Faleula, Alisi o le Afiafi from Faleasi’u, Makei from Lotoso’a Saleimoa and Faasaulala from Salepoua’e, Saleimoa.”
“So the winning team received $2,00tala and the trophy, 2nd place received $1,000 and the other three teams each got $200 tala.”
“We also like to acknowledge our supporters like the ACP Vaitele and the Ah Liki Construction to name a few and last but not the least our major sponsor Rowlen Finance.”
“Thank you for your support in the tournament and looking forward to the next tournament.”
