Samoa Finance Apia Maroons have clinched the title for the E.V.A.W 10s tournament at Apia Park yesterday.

Once more, the finale boiled down to a tussle between Apia and Moata’a.

The Maroons won with a final score of 18-5.

The game was evenly matched at kick off as both teams missed key players on the pitch who have travelled for international duties.

The Maroon showed their dominance to overcome their foes.

Interim head Coach, Paepaetele Lia was delighted with his boys’ performance.

The Apia Maroons is home to world-class sevens player, Tila Mealoi.

Mealoi was recently announced as skipper for the Manu Sevens.

Coach Lia beamed with pride as he spoke of Mealoi’s selection.

He said Mealoi has not only made their club proud but also their entire village.   He knows being chosen as the leader of the Manu Sevens is not taken lightly.

The tournament also fielded the most participation of women’s teams in a  rugby tournament in recent weeks.

The participation of women in an event like this only seemed fitting as the tournament’s theme was about ending violence against women.

As the women took the pitch, they proved to be just as tough as the men and displayed an excellent level of skill.

The Ulafala Women’s team from Mulivai defeated Taga Blowholes with a final score of 21-7.

At the end of the day, these players are no longer just rugby players but ambassadors for ending violence against women and girls.
