The Laumua o Tumua claimed the champion title for the inaugural Moataa Rugby Club 7s on Saturday, easily beating Laulii, 32 - 14.

A few minutes into the first half of the match and Laulii's  Luke Leniu was given a 'red card' for a dangerous tackle. LOT used the extra man advantage and dominated much of the play.

LOT enjoyed the return of former national sevens rep Tuna Tuitama, who had just returned from his stint with the Moana Pasifika.

Lavanta Stowers of LOT said that they couldn't be happier with the win. He said they knew Laulii was going to be tough.

From Lavanta's observation, the first day of the tournament was easier. The second day demanded more from the players and they had to dig deep.

"We look forward to other upcoming tournaments and we hope that we continue to carry this win forward. There are still many things that we need to work on and improve for our team."

Laulii skipper, Pasia Lautasi Tuifua said it was quite a challenging game as they had to play with only six players.

"We had to work something out with the numbers that we had. So we came up with a plan for everyone to play in the front and leave the sweeper position open. However, LOT slowed the game down, and they went for scrums because we are short on numbers. Our team is made up of village kids all under the age of 25," he said.

"For the majority of them, this is their first time playing at this level. But we will reset, regroup, and work again on our mistakes. There is a lot of improvement needed."

The MVP for Laulii was Neueli Leitufia and for LOT it was Kiovi Penieli. The tournament attracted hundreds of rugby fans across Samoa.
