Weightlifters win 12 medals on Day One

With the conclusion of the first day of competition at the Oceania Championship in Melbourne, Australia, Samoa has claimed 12 medals. Eight gold medals, one silver, and three bronze. 

The President for Weightlifting Samoa Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork confirmed all the athletes who won medals for Samoa. 

"Results from day one of the Oceania Championship 2025 in Melbourne are as follows: Falevaa Tafi silver medalist in the men's 65 kgs, Anoni Faumui bronze medalist for the women's 58kgs. Seine Stowers won two gold medals and broke three Oceania women's records in the 77kgs," he said. 

"Faitasia Sea won two gold medals and set three Oceania records for the men's 71kgs. Sione Sasa won two gold medals and set six Oceania records in the men's 79kgs. Niusila Opeloge won two bronze medals for the Men's 88kgs. Emmanuel Ulimasao won a gold medal for the men's 97kgs, and lastly Fomai Faimanifo won a gold medal for the men's 110+kgs."

Tuaopepe also confirmed that there are more athletes to compete on Saturday at the 2025 Oceania Cup Invitation International Weightlifting. The lifters will also get a chance to qualify for the Pacific Mini Games in Palau this month if successful at the Oceania Championship.

"Yes, this will be a selection platform for the Palau Games. Also special acknowledgment and thank you to National Bank of Samoa, Government of Samoa, Pacific Aus Sports and SASNOC for making this trip possible. We have seven more athletes competing today and tomorrow."
