Young golfers get best score
Two young men from Darnard/Avila were named the Best Gross in the Marist Golf tournament at Tuanaimato golf course on Friday. Joshua Selesele and Robert Faaliga had the highest scores.
Young Joshua Selesele in an interview said that his connection to the Marist is through his father and the competition was very helpful for him in enhancing his golfing skills.
"My father is an old boy of the Marist hence why I'm participating. I want to show my support for my dad and his team. Everything went well with the competition, some competitors weren't truthful during the competition," he said.
"Glory goes back to God for the talent he has blessed me with. It's not going to stop here I will continue to play golf and enhance my skills."
Selesele has been playing golf for some time but also plays rugby union and rugby league.
"I am a golfer but I also play rugby. I play for Apia Barracudas in rugby league and Apia Maroons in rugby. So yes, I have other talents besides golfing."
Speaking on their opponents, he said they were pretty intimidating but he didn't let it affect his goal of wanting to win the competition for his partner in the game.
"There were people who teased me while I was trying to golf and get scores for my team but I didn't let it affect me. I was pretty calm during the whole competition. When you have prepared well, you won't have to worry about such. I was mainly preparing for the short games and my first shot."
According to Selesele golf is a great sport and comes with new friends. He was happy that he got to play with priests.
The results for the golf tournament are Alfred/Deporres won by 490 points, then Darnard/Avila with 499 points, Dieter/Aquinas coming in third with 510 points, and Marcellin/Orleans in fourth place with 528 points.
