Enabling different sporting clubs in the country to develop their talent has led to the offering of apparel sponsorship for athletes courtesy of Digicel Samoa.

The telecommunications company unveiled the Digicel Sports Apparel 2022 on Wednesday morning where its C.E.O. Seiuli Deepak Khanna congratulated the first patch of teams in the country and presented them with their uniforms.

The initiative according to Seiuli is for the development of sports in the country, in line with Samoa's celebration of its 60th Independence anniversary celebration.

"Our aim is to enable sports people to focus on their performance and develop their talents," Seiuli said.

He said the uniforms come in different styles and has a unique Samoan design that commemorates the country's 60 years of independence.

The different sports club in the country were asked to submit their expressions of interest and a proposal on what they had achieved over the years and also what they plan to achieve moving forward as a team.

Submitted proposals were then reviewed by the company with the first five teams presented with uniforms on Wednesday to become the first recipients of special edition attire.

Seiuli, however, did not want to disclose how much they were spending on the sports apparel for this year. He said that they understand that uniforms are always costly and they just want to give back to the community while confirming that the fund comes from the 10 per cent of their marketing budget.

The first five recipients are: Marist original men's netball team, Vaiala development team, Fagali'i volleyball club, Vaipuna soccer club, Nafanua paddling club.

Seiuli said that they be reviewing more proposals from other teams for different kind of sports and they will announce the second patch soon and present them with their uniforms.

The captains of the five teams that received uniforms on Wednesday then extended their gratitude to the C.E.O. and management of Digicel Samoa for the sponsorship.

They also acknowledged their continuous support and their hearts to give back to the Samoan community.
