The local proprietors of organic skin products maker Lupe Skincare have done a presentation to the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (SROS) staff.

The presentation was made by Tupaemanaia Dr Steve Brown and his wife Funealii Lumaava Sooaemailelagi as a form of awareness on their products.

Tupaemanaia told the Samoa Observer that they were granted an opportunity to present their products to the SROS.

"Lupe Skincare was kindly given an opportunity to present their products and services to SROS last Friday with assistance from the Tiapapata Art Centre, Galumanamana Steven and Wendy Percival," he said.

The presentation also provided the opportunity for the couple to ask the SROS staff questions on issues of common interest, such as faulty metabolic pathways, our immune system and even cancer or obesity prevention.

"Imagine SROS helping us to prevent getting these nasty lifestyle diseases, non-communicable diseases, auto-immune diseases,” Tupaemanaia said.

The Government-funded research organisation employees were also asked about the provision of scientific-based and evidence-based data on “what is good food, how to prepare it and when best to eat it”.

"SROS is in a position to educate we adults as to what role our gut microorganisms play in improving digestion, our immune system as well as our nervous system," he said.

The couple also pointed out that the findings could be used by the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture to disseminate information on the importance of dietary foods.

"Imagine MESC having to urgently educate our children that their predominantly imported commercial foods (high in toxic sugars and fats and salts) are possibly dangerous for maintaining long-term health," Tupaemanaia said.

The involvement of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) in promoting a whole food plant-based diet was also flagged during their discussions.

"Imagine MAF suddenly promoting a whole-food plant-based diet," he said.

The couple highlighted the potential perfecting of the best fermented foods (probiotics) such as miti faamafu, kefir yoghurt, masi ulu, kimchi, kombucha, sauerkraut and many more which are all essential for a complete diet.

"First there are diet-only anti-inflammatory foods (avoid most foods with a barcode, highly refined, low fibre, high glucose index, with toxic sugars and artificial sweeteners)," Tupaemanaia said.

"Then fasting for 15–18 hours a day, allows for some repair, rebuilding of tissues. Exercise 30mins a day (3x10 minutes). Sleep 7-8 hours a day (at night is best).”

Tupaemanaia also pointed out the last two pillars of de-stressing and avoiding toxins in foods, air and water.

"De-stress includes nature walk, yoga, deep breathing, meditation and avoiding toxins in foods, air and water (avoid all smoke from litter, plastic, tobacco)," he said.

All the pillars would contribute to a healthy body and skin, according to Tupaemanaia.

"You will see your excess weight drop (expect a kilogram per week), your energy suddenly regained, you will be sleeping better and possibly feeling happier and your skin is noticeably healthier.”
