Olo Levaopolo Fiti Vaai dominates ballot race at Salega No. 2.

Unofficial results reveal that the Vice Chairman of the Fa’atuatua I le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) party led the ballot boxes tally on Friday despite falling behind during pre polling.

If official results announces F.A.S.T. as winner, Olo will surely trade in his opposition stripes.

He was up against Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.) female candidate, Mae’e Ualesi Silva another H.R.P.P. candidate, Tapuai Faalogo Ve’e and Tautua Samoa candidate, Tapuai Etuale Fala.

Daily pre-polling results throughout the election week showed a very close race between Olo, Mae’e and Tapuai Faalogo with each one getting a chance to lead after the end of each day.

On the final day of pre-polling, Tapuai Faalogo was leading with 32 votes cast in his favour, followed by Olo with only 12, Mae’e with 11 and Tapuai Etuale with three.

Olo, formerly known as Levaopolo Talatonu Va’ai, has been in opposition for 15 years since entering Parliament in 2006 as a Member of Parliament for Gagaemauga No.2 under the banner of Samoa Democratic United Party (S.D.U.P.).

He then joined Tautua Samoa Party in 2008 after the S.D.U.P. dissolved leading to his seat made void until the decision was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2009.

He was reelected in 2011 as a candidate of Tautua Samoa.

In the 2016 election, Olo contested the seat of Salega East under his current name.

An electrical engineer by profession, he hails from a proud family of politicians on his Vaai side, he is proud to continue the legacy.

In a previous interview, Olo said he remained an opposition for as he did not have trust in the HRPP leadership.

Olo has explicitly declared his confidence that F.A.S.T. is strong enough to defeat H.R.P.P.

"I will remain as an opposition member all my life as I was waiting and praying for a party that I can fully trust.

"So now that we have formed this party (F.A.S.T.) I fully support the party and trust the people in this party. So if we win next month, we will execute the plans and policies we have set up for the benefit of our people.

"This party is a political party of the people, by the people for the people.

"We will develop Samoa and help the people by [conducting] clean politics."
