As 2025 comes to a close, residents across Samoa are preparing to welcome the New Year with family, friends, and celebrations, hoping to see fireworks light up the night sky.
“I hope we get to see fireworks this year—it will make the celebration even more exciting,” said Tuiatua Lavea, 29.
Noema, 21, added, “Watching the fireworks will be a special way to start the new year and feel hopeful for what’s ahead.”
Beyond the festivities, locals are reflecting on the past year and setting personal goals for 2026. From health and wellbeing to studies and new experiences, residents are looking forward to making positive changes in their lives.
Several individuals shared their resolutions with the community. Leilani Taufaa, 28, a teacher, said she wants to focus on her health. “Next year, I want to take better care of myself. I plan to start jogging three times a week and eat more home-cooked meals,” she said.
Mikaele, 34, a fisherman, hopes to save more money. “I want to build up my savings so I can afford a new boat. Setting aside a little each week will help me reach this goal,” he explained.
Sina Lei, 22, a university student, said she plans to volunteer more in her community and improve her cooking skills. “Taking small steps each month will help me feel accomplished by the end of next year,” she said.
Bob, 19, a university student, said his main focus will be academic success. “I want to graduate and pass my exams with high marks. I plan to stay disciplined, study consistently, and make the most of my university resources,” he said.
Alamea Toetu’u, 31, wants to focus on mental wellbeing and family time. “I want to meditate daily and spend more quality time with my family,” she said.
Other residents also shared their goals. Tama Fepulea’i, 26, wants to travel more and explore Samoa’s natural sites.
Lina Mapu, 24, plans to adopt healthier habits, including regular exercise and better nutrition, while Mele, 27, hopes to spend more time with friends and family.
Manuia Tavita, 23, shared her goal of improving time management. “I want to organise my days better so I can balance work, studies, and personal time more effectively,” she said.
Leota Fa’alogo, 35, said he plans to give back to the community. “Next year, I hope to volunteer regularly and help out where I can. It’s important to me to contribute positively to the people around me,” he said.
These resolutions highlight the diverse hopes and aspirations of the community, reflecting a shared desire among Samoans to grow, stay balanced, and embrace positive changes in 2026.
