Local car dealer, Asco Motors Samoa, has offered a helping hand to Samoa’s overall efforts to combat COVID-19 by donating eight generator units to the Government.

A brief ceremony was held last week at the company’s Apia headquarters to mark the occasion.

The Asco Motors Manager of Sales and Marketing, Lipa Vaoga, applauded the work of Government’s frontline agencies that are directly or indirectly involved in Samoa’s fight to keep us free from the pandemic.

“It is our company’s vision to assist the protection of our country from the pandemic and we think this is the best way we can sort of lend a hand to the overall national effort,” he said.

Mr. Vaoga explained that their company does not always assist the government but in light of the global pandemic and also in line with the State of Emergency their company has decided to assist with the donation of much needed equipment.

“The donation was for the key ministries involved such as the Ministry of Health, Fire and Emergency Services, Police department with isolation and these are the best tools used out there.”

The eight Yamaha sets valued at SAT $12,950 are gasoline powered and quite ideal for usage in the field during emergency situations.

The generator sets was received by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Finance, Leasiosiofa’asisina Oscar Malielegaoi and senior officials of the Ministry.

Leasiosiofa’asisina thanked Asco Motors for the timely assistance, noting that the equipment’s will be deployed and used during Disaster and Emergency Operations.

To date, Samoa is one of the few countries in the world that has not had any COVID-19 cases thanks to its strict border restrictions.

Samoa's international borders remain closed under its declared State of Emergency (S.O.E).
