Bridge opening a boon for local hotel

The Director of Operations at Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel and Bungalows, Frank Lu, has welcomed the opening of the $43 million Vaisigano Bridge, which he says will make the hotel more accessible.

Mr. Lu said that while the bridge was under construction, it was difficult for them because guests were struggling to find their way there.

Before the bridge construction and the COVID-19, the hotel generated about $40,000 in a week from the tea lounge through beverage and pastries.

But this quickly changed due to the road closure and covid19.

“The positive impact though for this road closure was that we were working very closely with the government and the LTA trying to support what the government was doing here,” he added.  “Now they’ve made a special road for Sheraton which is very priceless.”

Mr. Lu said that Sheraton is privileged to have been granted the old Vaisigano bridge for use.

“Things are looking very good with the reopening of the new bridge,” Mr. Lu said

“Now we have feedback from guests that there is a spacious car park and the view is fantastic and that is very good for us.”

They also received great feedback from their guests who stayed with them in their harbour-view rooms over the Father’s Day weekend.

“We’ve had very good feedback after the father’s day weekend when people stayed in our harbour view rooms,” he added

“If you stay in our harbour view rooms you’ll be able to see the entire harbour and bridge and the people really love the view and our harbour view rooms are the biggest rooms in size on the island and for that we are looking forward to hosting more people.”

Mr. Lu said that if they have the opportunity, they are looking at decorating the road by putting up lights and add a bit of landscaping to the road.

“My idea is to make the road like one of the attractions here in Samoa,” he said.  “Part of the plan is use the road as a car park but we will see.”

Their plans will make the road very secured and make it more attractive.  The new bridge is a very unprecedented construction that makes the hotel safe as well as the whole area as it has been affected by flooding a couple of times.
