Police investigate Safotu death

Police are investigating the death of a young man in Safotu during the Father's Day long weekend.

This was confirmed by the Deputy Police Commissioner, Papali'i Monalisa Tiai-Keti.

"The death is confirmed and the matter has been referred to coroner as per usual to schedule inquest date," she said in an email response to the Samoa Observer.

Anonymous sources say the body of the deceased was discovered on Monday morning.

It is understood there are no suspicious circumstances behind the death.

The death of the young man precedes that of a 40-year-old man, also on Monday, when he was run over by a Isuzu model heavy-duty truck.

Police allege that it is a case of deliberate vehicular homicide after a Father’s Day holiday drinking session.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged by the Police in relation to the vehicular homicide case.
