Village produces guideline booklet

A village has commissioned a book that outlines the rules that it expects its residents to abide by in order to live in peace and harmony.

The book titled “Tulafono Fa’a-Lotoifale A Tanugamanono” was collated and put together by the village of Tanugamanono and was launched at the Tanugamanono Primary School Hall on Saturday morning.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, the Minister of Works Transport and Infrastructure, Papali'itele Niko Lee Hang and the Ministry of Women Community and Social Development C.E.O. Afamasaga Faaiuga Mulitalo headlined the guests who attended the book’s commissioning on Saturday morning.

The Prime Minister welcomed the guests and members of the village in his keynote address at the launching and highlighted how the guidelines will enable residents of Tanugamanono village to live peacefully.

Village paramount chief, Tupuola Afa Lesa, explained that producing the book containing the village’s rules and regulations was not easy, as there were many opinions expressed by those who put together the book.

According to Tupuola, the main purpose of launching the guideline booklet is for people within the village of Tanugamanono to live peacefully together.

“I would like to thank you all for having the opportunity to witness the work of the village and also the work of the Government and the Ministry of Women Community and Social Development,” he said.

In an interview with Samoa Observer, Tupuola explained that the development of the book started five years ago.

“We discuss it every year. After a while, it was completed and now it is done,” he said. “The guidelines will highlight good conduct within the village because now there are guidelines and punishment so that people will obey the law.”

And going forward, he believes that villages in Samoa should create similar guide books to protect their village and the culture of our country.

“Villages should follow this example and I know that are also other villages that have tried as well. This isn’t the first time because there are other villages that also have guideline booklets,” he added.

Each family in the village was given the book after its launching on Saturday.

The publication “Tulafono Fa’a-Lotoifale A Tanugamanono” is the work of the village council of Tanugamanono and the Ministry of Women Community and Social Development and all printing was done by Marfleet Printing.
