A driver for a Cabinet Minister has been charged, following a car crash last week, involving two Government vehicles.

Sefo Tafuna'i, who drives the Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, Papali'i Niko Lee Hang, has been charged with careless driving

Deputy Police Commissioner, Papalii Monalina Tiai-Keti, confirmed the charge and said Tafuna'i is scheduled to appear before the Court on 2 September 2020.

Papali'i's vehicle was involved in a minor collision with the Minister of Commerce’s vehicle at Vaimea last week Thursday. 

They were on their way from Lotofaga Aleipata to the opening of the Government’s new water project in Aleisa.

Despite the seemingly new condition of the MWTI14 vehicle, Mr. Tafuna’i said the brakes did not work as he tried slowing down when Lautafi’s vehicle signalled to move to an outer lane.

This resulted in the grey pickup truck carrying Papali'i hitting the right rear end of Lautafi’s white vehicle.

Papalii’s vehicle front bumper was almost completely detached and its right rear side scratched after it collided with another parked vehicle.
