After weeks of no sporting activities due to the two-month state of emergency, the Football Federation Samoa (F.F.S.) will kick start its competition on June 20.

The Federation’s Executive Board has resolved to roll out its annual programme starting with the Youth League Competition, but with strict adherence to the two-meters social distancing between players and all involved.

Media and communications officer for the F.F.S., Angela Lafaialii Pauga, told the Samoa Observer in a telephone interview that they will have volunteers and officials to ensure that the two-meter social distance rule is enforced.

“We will have volunteers assigned to practice the two-meter distance rule,” she said. “We will advise the clubs to maintain this order with the help of our officials ensuring that people abide by the order or else they will be warned.”

The Youth League Competition is one of the Federation’s main annual events and is for the boys and girls categories, specifically for registered clubs in Upolu. It is scheduled to run from June 20 to August 8.

There were 16 clubs but two new clubs have joined this year’s tournament.

The Federation aims to increase the number of clubs and is looking at hosting tournaments. It is scheduled to take place on weekdays and weekends with free entry to watch the games.
