Rough weather cancels MV Lady Naomi

The MV Lady Naomi trip to American Samoa for Thursday has been cancelled due to severe weather conditions.

The weather is a result of the broad area of low pressure system with an extensive cloud band and gale winds which lies over Samoa.

The MV Lady Naomi trip's cancellation was confirmed by the Samoa Shipping Corporation Limited on Wednesday afternoon through a statement circulated online.

"MV Lady Naomi's trip scheduled for Pago Pago this Thurday, 20th February, 2020 is now cancelled until further notice due to severe weather conditions in the territory," the statement reads.

"We apologise for any inconveniences caused due to these changes."

The cancellation comes a day after schools, Samoa Airways flights and inter island ferry services had been either cancelled or delayed due to the rough weather.

According to the Marine forecast for Tuesday, northern marine waters are expected to experience northwest winds of 50-60 kph and gusty up to 80kph at times. Combine waves and swells of 3-5 metres.

Similarly for the southern marine waters, it is expected that South to southwest winds may reach of 50-60 kph gusty up to 80kph at times with combine waves and swells of between three to five metres.

Despite the Tropical Disturbance 08F on the Southeast of Samoa as confirmed by the Samoa Meteorology Division confirms, the weather had been clear for most of Tuesday with scattered rain here and there.

Tuesday had been nothing like the heavy downpours and gusty winds on Monday which had the MET Office to issue warning of developing combine waves and swells of three to four metres high.
