The Fia Fia Amusement Park at Tafaigata was forced to close on Saturday for safety reasons, as bad weather resulting in heavy rain and winds rendered the facility unsafe for public use.

The park's management said in a statement posted on their Facebook page that due to the approaching storm, the park will remain closed until they advise the public through the media of its opening.

"Due to the approaching storm with possibly high winds....Samoa Fiafia Park will be closed this Saturday, 15-Feb. This is for the safety of all concerned. We are sorry for any inconvenience. We hope to open in the coming week and will make that announcement soon on Radio and TV. Kindest regards to all... Bruno and crew."

Its abrupt closure on Saturday comes a month after it opened its doors to the public, and two months after the measles epidemic also compelled its management to delay its commissioning.

In an update published on its website at 6pm on Sunday, the Samoa Meteorology Service has advised that a Tropical Disturbance (TD07F) within the vicinity of Tuvalu, and a low pressure system northwest of Savai’i are expected to track southeast to the south of the island and will continue to trigger rain and wind.

“These two systems are expected to track southeast to the south of the island with slight development,” states the weather update. “The low pressure system near Savaii will bring heavy rain and gusty wind conditions for tonight and tomorrow (Monday).”

The Meteorology Service expects the TD07F to move southeast towards the island Monday evening and warns that there is a low to moderate chance it could develop into a tropical cyclone.
