Rev. Faumuina honoured for long service
Seven pastors were honoured for their service to the Assemblies of God (A.O.G.) Church in Samoa this week during the church's 50th annual conference.
Held at the Harvest Center, Lotopa, the pastors were acknowledged for their dedication and commitment to the work of God on earth.
Reverend Faumuina Alofa Faumuina, who has served the church for 41 years, was among the seven Pastors. Married to Tafaoga Faumuina, they have 10 children. Rev. Faumuina is from Matavai, Safune on the big island of Savai'i.
"I started in the ministry in Tafua, Savaii in 1977-1981 and then I moved to Upolu to the village of Satitoa, Aleipata for 23 years," he said.
“Later, in September 2004 we moved to Faleasiu, where we are still serving at the moment. I accepted my calling from God at the age of 24 and it was my desire to be a pastor but I guess growing up in a family of devoted A.O.G. members played a part in my accepting my call."
So what drives Rev. Faumuina?
“I enjoy serving the Lord and I find building people, working together with people and saving lives very fulfilling,” he said.
The 65-year-old said working with people to make a difference in their lives is difficult but is also quite exciting at the same time.
“Helping others know God and Jesus Christ is part of my work. There were so many difficulties and challenges I faced within the ministry but I thank God that he helped a lot and it was through the spirit of the Lord.
“I will still continue my work in the ministry until I find the right time to retire maybe around 70 but I will always help around in any way I can. I have been the secretary for the A.O.G. church in Samoa for 16 years.
“I love to help the youths because they are the future, we need to build our youths into the right paths because they will be the future of families, villages, churches and of course our government,” he added.
During the conference this week, there will a special service for the youths to perform dances, songs and items.
“We want the youths to feel free to serve God and as a father and a pastor at the same time, I brought up my children through the teachings of God.
“Parents must always keep in mind that actions speak louder than words and so parents must set good examples so the children will learn and follow.
“The joy in serving God within the ministry is seeing the changes in people's lives and having played a part in it because it is through God's power that enables them."
