Samoa will officially mark Water and Forest Day 2019 on Friday.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) will host a programme that will revolve around the theme "Leaving no one behind, through Sustainable Water and Forest Management Education".

Members of the public have been invited by the Ministry to attend the official commemoration to be held at the Water Resource Division, field office at Vailima at around 9.00am.

Clean water is one of Samoa’s most important resources and forests are vital to our water supply which is why protecting our forests protects our clean water supply.

The International Day of Forests is celebrated on March 21 and the World Water Day is marked on March 22, but due to the annual events being celebrated by the Government, it was decided that both events be staged together since 2013.

The programme for the day is aligned with celebrations conducted around the world to highlight the importance of and advocate for the sustainable management of our freshwater and forest resources, especially in light of growing natural and human induced pressures.
