Revenue board approves airport parking fees

The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that a series of proposed airport-related fees, including a recently increased exit fee and new vehicle parking charges, were officially approved by the National Revenue Board.
In a written response to questions from the Samoa Observer, the Ministry’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Policy Management, Tofilau Luamanuvae Lae Siliva, said the fees submitted by the Samoa Airport Authority in February this year, have now been endorsed.
“The Ministry of Finance can confirm that the proposed fees were reviewed by the National Revenue Board,” Tofilau stated.
Among the approved changes is the airport exit fee, which was increased in February from $5 to $10. The hike, initially implemented earlier this year, is now confirmed as permanent following the board's review.
Additionally, new parking fees at Faleolo International Airport have been approved. The standard daily parking fee is $20 for long-term parking and for vehicles parked for more than 24 hours.
However, the Aviation Security (AVSEC) charge—a proposed fee designed to support security screening and safety upgrades at the airport—remains under review, according to the Ministry.
The original AVSEC fee of $5 is proposed to be $100 if approved by the revenue board. It was also not confirmed if the proposed increase for the departure tax from $65 to $100 has been approved.
Another proposed fee currently under question is the $10 overnight parking charge at Mulifanua Wharf, which affects travellers leaving their vehicles while taking the ferry to Savai’i. The Ministry has yet to confirm whether this specific charge has also been reviewed by the Revenue Board and if it has been approved.
