Two vehicle-related incidents damaged electricity infrastructure in Samoa over the weekend, according to notices from the Electric Power Corporation (EPC).

On Saturday night in Matautu, a vehicle struck a power pole, causing outages in Matautu and Vaiala. The pole did not fall, but it was damaged in the impact. Photos from the scene show that the vehicle’s frontage was damaged after hitting the pole. EPC crews were deployed to inspect the structure and carry out repair work while restoring power to affected areas.

A second and more serious incident happened on Sunday afternoon in Fasitoo Uta along the Lefaga feeder. A silver car was seen crashed into a power pole, according to photos from the scene.

The photos show the car hitting the pole directly. The pole then fell onto the car, landing on the windscreen and causing damage. The crash also led to more power outages in the area.

EPC crew were also still working to repair the damage and restore electricity to the affected places.

It remains unclear whether anyone was injured in either of the accidents. Authorities have not released further details about the drivers or the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

EPC thanked the public for their patience and understanding, and appreciated their continued support.
