CCCS keeps schools closed
The Congregational Christian Church Samoa (CCCS) Education Office postponed all CCCS school classes on Monday because of the weather, as the new school year began.
CCCS operates six secondary schools, namely Leulumoega Fou College (LFC), Maluafou College (MFC), Nuuausala College (NSC), Tuasivi College (TSC), Congregational Senior College (CSC) and Papauta Girls’ College (PGC).
The Robert Louis Stevenson Primary School also announced a postponement, stating that classes will resume on 9 February. Meanwhile, government schools remained open despite the hazardous conditions.
In its announcement, the CCCS Education Office stated that, “There will be no school today due to the unstable situation with the current service,” noting that the decision was made because weather conditions were very poor and unsafe. The notice added that a further update would be provided once the return date is confirmed.
“A further update will be given regarding the day school will resume. Thank you,” the statement read. The message was signed by the Director of Education.
The Robert Louis Stevenson Primary School also posted an update advising parents and students that school has been postponed, with classes set to restart on 9 February, citing the same unstable weather conditions.
While CCCS schools and RLS Primary School suspended classes, government schools continued operating as normal, with no closures announced.
According to the Samoa Meteorological Office, tropical depression TD08F is bringing in associated rain and wind. Warnings for rain, flood, wind and the sea were issued.
