Emergency responders are continuing the search for a 54-year-old fisherman from Savaii who has been missing for three days.
Toalepai Sio, 54, from Salelavalu, was last seen on Wednesday.
Police at Tuasivi Station confirmed a missing person report was filed after he failed to return home. According to police, family members reported that he went fishing.
The search began on Wednesday around 11 pm, with police concentrating their efforts at sea, where Toalepai was last seen. Local village members have also joined, searching both the waters and nearby plantations.
According to his family, Toalepai has not been located, but they have shared photos of him online, appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the search.
Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority (SFESA) Commissioner Tanuvasa Petone Mauga confirmed to the Samoa Observer that the search for the missing man is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Last year, in late April 2025, search efforts were conducted for a 58-year-old from Lepea who had also gone missing. He was never found.
Meanwhile, the Samoa Meteorology Department in its latest update said there will be gusty winds and the seas will be rough for the coming days and has advised mariners to take caution and avoid going out to sea.
