The Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration has clarified that the Parole Board considered a total of 71 applications, of which 25 were approved.

The applications were reviewed during Parole Board sittings held between 10 and 12 December 2025. Those granted parole included Malele Paulo, also known as King Faipopo.

The Ministry stated that another news outlet's report that 55 out of 71 parole applications were approved is incorrect.

Paulo was charged in connection with a plot to assassinate former Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr Sa’ilele Malielegaoi. In 2020, he was jailed for four years after the court found him guilty of the charges.

Paulo was paroled after serving two and half years.
