Five descendants of the Talauega family were given the honour of becoming the new titleholders of the paramount chiefly title in Malaemalu, Falealili.

The ceremony, which was held at the family's special guest house, was attended by hundreds of matai from the constituency.

Traditionally, the matai from Satalo started the ceremony with the usual ava ceremony and the blessings of the new matai titles which was conducted by high chief Onofiatele Taveuveu Agaalii.

The blessings from Satalo village were acknowledged by the five new titleholders.

Afterwards, the whole constituency was present to witness the ceremony with another ava with blessings from the high chiefs of not only Malaemalu but also other neighbouring villages in Falealili.

The event was planned last year when the last Talauega title holder, Talauega Lafi Onesemo, passed away after holding the title for 47 years.

The family all agree that it is time to have new titleholders of this important matai in Malaemalu to serve and lead the family, village and churches.

One of the new titleholders, Talauega Aipov,i said he is humbled by the honour given not only to him but also to the other four new Talauega.

"I will serve the family, village and church with love so that the future generation of our family will be able to continue this in the future when it is their time to lead," Talauega said.

"I am very humbled and honour for this important high chief title bestowed upon me today," he added.

The five new Talauega titleholders are: Deputy Prime Minister Talauega Pou Onesemo, Associate Minister of Justice Sala Paulo Poto, Talauega Aipovi, Talauega Tuaoi, and Talauega Jefferey Leung Wai.
