Festive season peaceful says Leiataua
The acting Police Commissioner, Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga, says the Christmas and New Year holidays were peaceful despite minor incidents.
When asked about the police's operation for the festive season, he said there were just minor incidents such as family disputes, drivers who drove without licenses and vehicles that were found without licenses.
Leiataua stated that no life-threatening accidents or incidents occurred, and he acknowledged the public for being responsible and supporting the work the police are doing for the safety of Samoa.
The police have been working 24 hours, seven days a week, during the Christmas and New Year Holidays.
Roadblocks were conducted at most of the roads, not only in Upolu but also in Savai'i, where the police were using speed radars to monitor vehicles.
Leiataua, during a recent press conference, said these radar guns were funded by the Australian government in partnership with the Samoa Police.
Moreover, the police are still conducting roadblocks to ensure the safety of the public as the new year starts.
Compared to the previous years, Leiataua thanked the public that this is one of the peaceful and safest years of the holiday season.
Government ministries are still on their last week of holiday break and will resume work on 12 January.
