Mother's dying wish for justice
A woman took her last breath on Monday at the national hospital. Her last words were seeking a promise to ensure justice for her seven-year-old daughter, who was allegedly sexually abused in her own home by a relative.
The child is now in the custody of the Samoa Victim Support Group, and they have promised that the case will see it through court.
According to SVSG president Siliniu Lina Chang, it was an emotional farewell between the young victim and her mother.
The girl clung to her mother as she lay on her deathbed. Tears were shed not only by the mother and daughter but by all those present in the room.
President Siliniu Lina Chang said it was sad. She said the young victim of sexual abuse had already been traumatised by the incident at her home and now she had lost her mother.
Siliniu said SVSG reassured the mother that her daughter's matter will reach court and justice will prevail.
As the 16 days of activism conclude, Siliniu said SVSG will continue to care, cater and fight for justice for all the children under their care who are abused mentally, physically and spiritually.
The case will be called again next year.
"Rest in love, dear mother, your daughter is not alone. God has seen through your pain the genuine love of a mother," Siliniu said.
