A special celebration of achievements was marked at Vaimauga College's graduation, with recognition given to the dux and a student with mobility disability given a chance to complete his education without paying any fees.

Dux, Tolu Esera, 17, of Letogo, was honoured as the school’s top Science student. Standing before his classmates, Tolu reflected on years of dedication and the challenges that shaped his journey.

“I’m very happy that my sacrifice has paid off for my family and me,” he said.

“My parents have been my number one support. They have advised me to push through with my studies. I dream of becoming a doctor to save lives.”

His mother, Julie Esera, watching proudly from the crowd, credited faith for her son’s accomplishments. “All glory to God for His blessings upon my son for his achievements,” she said.

The ceremony also highlighted one of the most touching moments of the day — the awarding of a full scholarship to New Delhi Joseph Salatielu. The scholarship will allow him to attend school next year without paying fees, lifting a burden from his family and opening doors to new possibilities.

Vaimauga College opened its doors for New Delhi for Year 9 after he was not allowed to study at another because of his disability.

“I feel happy and thankful, especially to my family,” New Delhi said. “Sometimes I feel giving up on my studies, but my family motivate me to carry on.”

Joseph’s mother, Ario Simau, expressed gratitude as she spoke about her son’s resilience and the support from the school.

"The scholarship will be helpful not only to him but me as a single mother. I’m now working at Moto’otua Hospital and this really helps."
