Year nine students appear for burglary
Two teenagers currently attending a college in Savaii appeared before the Supreme Court on Monday for charges of burglary.
However, because of the young ages of these two accused, Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma adjourned the matter to be called before the Savaii Youth Court on 17 December.
Both accused's mothers were present in court on Monday, and one of them was able to confirm the birthday of one of the young defendants to the court. The teenager didn't know his own birthday when Justice Roma asked him.
A suppression order was issued for the names of both defendants, their villages and also the college they are currently attending due to their young age.
Burglary and theft are considered on the rise, with multiple cases before the court daily. Judges in delivering their decisions highlighted the major concerns the community is facing for their safety.
The two accused will both appear in the Tuasivi Youth Court in the next two weeks to enter their pleas. Both were unrepresented.
