Police will be looking into an incident where a fight broke out during the Toa Samoa parade in Apia on Saturday.

Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga said, adding that he will look into the matter and contact the Samoa Observer with more details.

In an interview, Leiataua confirmed that police were aware of the incident, which involved members of the public. He did not provide specifics about the individuals involved but reminded everyone attending events to prioritise safety.

It is believed that an ambulance had to be called to take one of the people injured in the fight. Police are yet to clarify how the fight started.

Hundreds of fans gathered in central Apia to celebrate the Toa Samoa rugby league team following its Pacific Championships campaign. The parade started from Tuanaimato and made its way through the capital, passing through several main streets where supporters lined the roads to cheer on the national team. While the event was largely peaceful, police were stationed along the route to maintain order and respond to any disturbances. Families and supporters joined the festivities, waving flags, and taking photos.

Fans also looked forward to Toa Samoa’s game against New Zealand in New Zealand on Sunday. Authorities said any follow-up actions regarding Saturday’s altercation will be determined after reviewing statements and video footage from the event.

No further information has been released as the investigation continues, and police have urged the public to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines at gatherings.
