Election writ return on Monday
Electoral Commissioner, Tuiafelolo John Stanley, said the writ of elections would be returned to the Head of State, Tuimalealiifano Va'aletoa Sualauvi II, on Monday, 8 September, following the end of the official count of the 2025 general elections on Thursday.
Earlier on Thursday, Tuiafelolo told the Samoa Observer that he would meet with the Head of State, later in the evening, and the writ of the names of all the winning candidates on it is expected to be out later on Thursday night.
He said the writ will then be returned to the Head of State on Monday, 8 September and from there, a special announcement will be made by His Highness of when parliamentarians will be sworn in.
After the official count, Tuiafelolo thanked God. He said that even though there were errors and challenges in the way, it was a "peaceful" official count.
He said the challenges of this official count were mostloy the errors made by the electoral officers at different polling booths. He said all those will be dealt with later next week.
Tuiafelolo said all these electoral officers implicated will be called in to meet with him and will be investigated.
He repeated the possibility of these electoral officers not getting any allowances and will be blacklisted so they will not be able to work for the Office of the Electoral Commission in the future.
Out of 50 constituencies that have been officially counted, 30 were Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) Party, 14 from the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP), three were the Samoa Uniting Party (SUP) and four were independents.
These 51 winning candidates will be sworn in once a special announcement is made by His Highness Tuimalealiifano later next week.
