Dr Kamu told to step down

The Acting Deputy Director General for Hospital and Clinical Services, Ulugia Dr. Tito Kamu, has confirmed he has been instructed to step down from his position by Friday, 22 August 2025.

In an interview with the Samoa Observer, Ulugia said he received a formal letter directing him to vacate his post immediately. However, he stressed the letter did not provide any reasons for the decision.

“I have been asked to step down by Friday. The letter did not specify why I am being asked to leave,” Ulugia said.

The unexpected directive has raised questions within the health sector, where Ulugia has played a central role in overseeing hospital and clinical services in recent months. Neither the Ministry of Health nor the cabinet has yet released an official statement on the matter.

This is a developing story. Further updates will follow as details emerge.
