A top local fashion designer was acknowledged for his long service, participation and involvement in Samoan and Pacific pageantry.

He was recently recognised for his work by the Samoan Community in New South Wales, Australia.

Rupi Taituuga, known for his fashion label RUPI, was invited as a special guest Judge at the Miss Samoa NSW pageant that took place on 5 July at Skyview Centre in Liverpool, Sydney.

He is a Supreme Award Winner for the very first SBC Samoa Fashion Award back in 2006, the very first local based Fashion Designer to win a Supreme Award at a major International Fashion Award, winner of the the New Zealand Westfield Pasifika Fashion Award in 2006 for his Best Menswear, and winner of the Highly Commended Designer for Bridal Wear, Evening Wear and Menswear again in 2010.

Rupi believes in letting the creative inner self being free.

"Duty and responsibility must never outweigh our emotions. And that's why we must always stay bold with our decision making, no matter the consequences, because in the end, what we do reflects our inner selves. It will come back to us one way or the other,” he said.

“I am grateful and humbled for the opportunity, and I glorify and honour God for the calling. As in the world of pageantry, it's all about service, service to the community, and I will continue to quietly serve Samoa, Osi taulaga ai I Le Atua" with my work through this platform.

“I acknowledge the Fono Samoa NSW and Miss Samoa NSW Committee for the invitation.”

According to Fono Samoa NSW and Miss Samoa NSW Committee, Rupi's presence brought prestige and grace to the evening, and his discernment helped them honour the values and essence of the platform, empowering Samoan women in culture, confidence, and community.

They were grateful for the service and the mana Rupi brought to this special occasion. They were grateful for Rupi playing such a vital role in helping shape the next representative of their Samoan Community in NSW.

Rupi hails from the villages of Satalo and Alafua and is a family-oriented person who made sure his parents and loved ones come first.
