Lomitusi in custody for earlier drug charge
Social media blogger Fiu Sikuka Lomitusi, also known as Tama O le Eleele was taken back into custody earlier this week. This time for not appearing in court for an earlier drug charge.
Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed that Lomitusi was apprehended due to an outstanding warrant of arrest for not appearing in court in 2019.
Auapaau said Lomitusi was charged in 2019 for possession of narcotics and failed to appear in court.
He was also remanded again due to additional complaints by some members of the public for allegedly defaming them using electronic communication on his usual programme on social media.
The blogger who now resides in New Zealand will appear in the Supreme Court for one charge of possession of narcotics on 21 July and will appear again in the District Court on 22 July for charges of defamation, insulting words and harassment using means of electronic communications.
Lomitusi was arrested by police two weeks ago when he came for a holiday.
He was arrested in Savaii and was brought over to Apia for investigations on complaints from up to 10 people, including the Leader of the Human Rights Protection Party, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.
Lomitusi is remanded in custody to appear on the above-mentioned dates in court.
