Supermarket burglars plead guilty
Two men in their late 20s pleaded guilty to three charges of theft, admitting to stealing close to $50,000 in cash and items from a major supermarket.
Deric Ivan Moors and Amosa Fretton pleaded guilty to three charges of burglary, stealing and damaging property.
According to the summary of facts, Moors and Fretton on 8 May in Si'usega, broke into Frankie Supermarket using a hammer and stole $42,245, cash, a laptop valued at $2,200, and cigarettes worth $1348.
The total amount of cash and items that were stolen was $45,793.
Both men appeared unrepresented and will appear again before the Supreme Court for sentencing on 20 August.
Fretton, who was out on bail, has been remanded in custody along with Moors to await their sentencing.
Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma asked the two if alcohol was involved. They said yes; however, the judge failed to consider this as a mitigating factor.
"What do you mean alcohol was involved and yet your actions were premeditated?" Justice Fepuleai told the two defendants.
"I will not refer this matter to the Alcohol and Drug Court because this is always the excuse by these people, and there are about 300 people who come before this court and say the same excuse that alcohol was involved," Justice Roma added.
Justice Roma warned the two men that the penalty for them would most likely be imprisonment because of the seriousness of their actions.
