A senior Catholic Deacon, Fred Wulf, appeared in the Supreme Court on Monday for a charge of negligent driving causing death.

Representing Wulf was counsel Vaisala Afoa, who appeared on behalf of Precious Chang, the counsel for the accused.

Ms Afoa requested a week's adjournment for counsel to obtain full instructions from her client and also to receive the full charging document.

Wulf is accused of driving negligently at Falealupo on 20 May 2025, which caused the death of a man from the same village.

Judge Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma adjourned the matter without plea to 14 July 2025, for defence counsel to obtain full instructions from her client and also to obtain the charging sheet from prosecutor Solomona Natia on all the charges against Wulf.

Wulf is currently on bail and has surrendered all his travel documents and signed at the Fagamalo Police Post.

A rising number of cases involving dangerous driving and negligent driving claim the lives of people each week are being observed before the courts.

The majority of these cases involved drunk drivers or drivers who drove under the influence of alcohol.
