Firefighters training gets SQA seal
The Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority (SFESA) reached a milestone with its first-ever nationally recognised training program for emergency responders.
In June, SFESA officially launched its advanced Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training.
This is the first time such training has been approved by the Samoa Qualifications Authority (SQA), marking a major step forward in raising the standard of emergency medical services in the country.
This program gives firefighters and emergency staff stronger skills to deal with medical emergencies and better serve communities across Samoa.
Assistant Commissioner Matofai Matau Esau Lotu was commended for his strong leadership and guidance throughout the process. His support helped lift the quality of training for Samoa’s first responders.
Commander EMR Apelu Sauoaiga Kaio, with the support of the Training and Operations Commanders in the Operations Department, led the training rollout.
Their teamwork has been key to shaping the future of emergency response in Samoa.
Commissioner Tanuvasa Oloapu Petone Mauga personally congratulated the first graduating class of EMR and EMT trainees.
He acknowledged their hard work and encouraged them to continue setting a high standard for others to follow.
This achievement marks the beginning of a new chapter for SFESA and for emergency services in Samoa. With more qualified and confident responders, Samoa is now better prepared to face emergencies with skill and care.
